5 Earth Day Crafts & Activities for Kids

Ali Randazzo |

Earth Day is a great opportunity to Get Out and Play® with the whole family! This spring, plan a few hands-on activities for kids to get outside, learn about nature, and celebrate the Earth. From toddler crafts to activities for older kids, there’s something everyone will love with these 5 crafts & activities to celebrate Earth Day.

Earth Day Crafts

1. Free Earth Day Printable

Celebrate Earth Day this spring with a fridge-worthy printable. Take this coloring page to-go on your next outdoor adventure to doodle in nature. Or simply spend the afternoon in the sunshine at home coloring and crafting.

2. Flower Printing

Start with a wagon ride around your neighborhood or local park to collect wildflowers or weeds. Once your collection is complete, you can begin creating!

For this craft, you will need:

  • Wildflowers or flowering weeds
  • Large stone
  • Wax paper
  • Paper (or reuse newspaper)

Start by arranging your flowers onto the paper. Add the wax paper on top of the arranged flowers. With a parents help, rub the stone onto the paper pressing the petal colors onto your canvas. When you are done, remove the wax paper and flowers for a unique flower printed “painting”!

Earth Day Activities

3. Eco Challenge

Families can pick one goal to complete on Earth Day that focuses on sustainable impacts. Be sure to discuss and decide on a goal every family member is excited to complete!

Challenges can include:

  • Limit showers to 5 minutes or less
  • Compost all food waste
  • Biking to school or work
  • Visit a local market together and cook a meal from all locally sourced ingredients

What other challenges can you create? Bonus: extend the challenge from one day to one week!

4. Create a Play Garden

Whether you have a backyard or balcony, create a play garden this spring. Start by gathering your materials. Gardening Know How notes that you will need: dirt, a plastic storage tub or large container, and gardening toys. For a mini garden, add dirt directly to the My 1st 2-in-1 Wagon® with Garden Tools wagon body. Playing in the garden or a pretend garden will help kids learn about soil and gardening through active play.

Contact with dirt can improve kids’ mood, reduce stress, improve education performance, and strengthen the immune system, according to The National Wildlife Federation.

5. Nature Walk

Do you live near a national park? Or are you in biking distance to a local nature conservatory? Pick a spot with your little ones where you can be fully-immersed in nature. Take a bike ride to your destination and spend time observing nature. What do you see? What do you hear? Kids can even bring a notebook along to doodle or write their observations.
