Scooters for Every Age, Stage & Riding Style

Our kids' scooters help young riders build balance, coordination, and confidence one glide at a time. Families often choose scooters for younger children with 3 wheels for extra stability as little ones discover the fun of riding. Parents searching for a scooter for a 2-year-old can choose styles with wider decks that help new riders feel secure, while a scooter for a 5-year-old offers smooth steering that encourages longer neighborhood rides. As children grow, our kids' scooters include lightweight 2-wheel scooter options that keep them rolling, exploring, and imagining what's around the next corner. Parents often choose 2-wheel scooters for older kids who love portable, smoothgliding fun.

Designed for Comfort, Safety & Outdoor Fun

Every Radio Flyer kids' scooter is built with durable materials and intuitive steering to help young riders feel steady and supported as they build confidence. Beginner-friendly designs make it easy for little ones to learn at their own pace, while parents can pair every ride with one of our kids' safety helmets for extra protection. Beyond these scooters for toddlers and older kids, families looking for even more ways to play can also explore our ride-on toys for younger adventurers and kids' go-karts for older thrill-seekers. Every scooter can help inspire confidence, spark imagination, and bring more outdoor fun to the everyday.

The BEST scooter for our morning commute

I have three children and they are all very athletic and scooter-loving. We have tried a few brands of scooters but FINALLY found the BEST out there. These scooters worked for my 5 years olds and my 9 year old. They were easy to ride for our .5 mile commute to school and easy to navigate on various terrian. It's sometimes foggy when we scooter to school so the light-up wheels are a hit for both me as their mom and them! I did get these scooters as a gift from radio flyer but I would highly recommend to purchase!

We love this scooter

This scooter is not only cool and sleek but also very sturdy. Both my kiddos (ages 3 and 5) love using it. The red is such a pretty color. This would make a great birthday or holiday gift for any toddler/little kid. 5 stars from me and my family!!

Our Third Scooter Purchase

Purchased for family member this is our third buy of scooters from the website for Radio Flyer. The products are made well and last long and have been handed down to younger siblings and cousins etc. for years. Great products!!!!

Frequently Asked Questions About Scooters

At what age can a child ride a scooter?

When shopping for scooters for children, it's important to find the right fit for the child's age. Many kids begin riding around ages 2 to 3 when they can balance with support. A 3-wheel design often works best for early riders.

How do I choose the right scooter for my child?

Scooters for kids come in various heights and weights. Check the recommended age range, deck stability, and handlebar adjustability. Younger riders benefit from wider decks, while older kids enjoy narrower, faster styles.

What type of scooter fits a 5-year-old best?

A 5-year-old may enjoy a lightweight 2-wheel model if they already feel comfortable balancing. Riders who prefer more stability can continue using a 3-wheel scooter.

Should toddlers ride 2-wheel or 3-wheel scooters?

Toddlers should begin on 3 wheels because the added stability helps them learn to steer and balance safely.

Do kids need protective gear when riding a scooter?

Yes, especially for young children riding scooters. A properly fitted helmet is essential for scooter play. Parents often choose a style from our collection of safety helmets for added peace of mind.

How do I know when my child is ready for a 2-wheel scooter?

Kids are typically ready when they balance confidently and can step off safely. This transition often happens between ages four and six.

Are kids' scooters good for building motor skills?

Yes, scooters strengthen coordination, balance, and agility while giving kids a fun reason to stay active outdoors.

Are 3-wheel scooters safer for kids?

For most beginner riders, yes. Much like a tricycle, a 3-wheel scooter offers extra stability, making it easier for younger children to build confidence as they learn to steer, balance, and glide.

When should a child move from a 3-wheel to a 2-wheel scooter?

Most children transition between ages 4 and 6, once they can balance confidently, steer smoothly, and ride without needing the extra stability of a third wheel.

Can kids use scooters on sidewalks?

Yes, kids' trikes can be ridden on sidewalks, paved paths, and driveways, and similar popular places for kids to ride scooters. Always supervise young riders and encourage them to wear a properly fitted helmet.
