Introducing Two Fun, New Ride-Ons: Rory & Peanut!

Some of the most exciting days at Radio Flyer happen when we launch new products. Understandably, we’re extra-thrilled to introduce this duo — Rory: Electric Ride-On Lion with Sounds and Peanut: Electric Ride-On Elephant with Sounds. Powered by a 6V battery, these loveable ride-ons travel up to two miles per hour and they feature irresistible, plush fabric and a padded head perfect for hugs and cuddles.

With a press of the music button, the animals make real lion and elephant sounds, as well as play fun music.

“We selected a lion and elephant for ride-on toys after researching which animals are popular with kids – but not overdone,” says Sam, Product Development Engineer at Radio Flyer. “We wanted to stay away from trends that might go away soon, so we gravitated towards classic and timeless animals.”

With a press of the music button, the animals make real lion and elephant sounds, as well as play fun music.

“Both Rory and Peanut have sound modules that play four different sounds and songs when the button is pressed,” says Sam. “Working at a toy company is inherently fun, but I will say gathering to listen and analyze a variety of lion roars was extra fun.”

The smooth wheels are safe for indoor use. Meanwhile, the push-to-go button on the handlebar provides easy control and the footrests ensure comfort. Fortunately, the fun never has to end — the ride-ons easily charge through a charging port that’s located on the footrest. With a maximum weight capacity is 50 pounds, these loveable friends are geared toward kids age 2-5 years old.

Once Rory and Peanut were designed, it was time to create videos to showcase our new pals.

“Our video process always starts with a storyboard and a shot list,” says Ellen, Visual Communications Lead at Radio Flyer. “From there, we work with local modeling agencies to cast children to ride our products, and we scout location options for the set.”

The scouting process differed somewhat with Peanut and Rory since we chose to film at an indoor location rather than outside at a park, as we do with the majority of our products.

“The day of the shoot is always exciting and challenging — we adhere to a tight schedule,” Ellen admits. “Once we wrap, the footage is edited and we add all final touches.”

Looking back, Ellen says she most enjoyed working with the kids.

“They both loved riding Rory and Peanut, and we even had a dance party on set while playing Peanut’s fun sounds,” she recalls. “It’s always a blast to watch children interact with our products — and to capture the joy!”
